In Sydney Airport’s International terminal, the shopping area located just past customs has earned its name as the ‘luxury precinct’. It houses some of the world’s most sought-after brands offering a selection of high-end fashion, accessories, beauty and jewellery.
By following the organic, curved architecture of the walkways, the international brands of Dior, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Prada, amongst others, unfold before you in a shopping haven.
Since 1913 Prada has been synonymous with cutting-edge style. The brand unites concept, structure and image, through designs that go beyond trends, making Prada a point of reference for those who love to experiment and challenge conventions.
The Prada store at Sydney airport is no exception when it comes to challenging the norm.
They chose to follow the fluid flow of the luxury precinct, but instead of a straight-forward curved frontage they opted for a stunning ‘S’ shaped entrance to the store.
However, this then presented challenges when it came to protecting the opening when the shop was closed. Normal security shutters traditionally follow straight lines, but not wanting to compromise on design, Prada contacted Scotty Doors, part of the SDL Group, who deliver high-quality Stackdoor installations across Australia and New Zealand.
As Stackdoor security systems are manufactured to bespoke sizes and curves, Scotty Doors worked closely with the store contractors to develop a unique solution to follow exactly the ‘S’ shaped entrance.
Using a Stackdoor that stretches 8.5 metres wide and 4 metres high, this unusual system required a custom pulley system and precision-cut horizontal rails, allowing the grille to follow the store-front perfectly.
Powder-coated in the same black as the Prada brand colour, this security grille not only enhanced the store’s high end appearance but resonated with the DNA of the brand – to challenge convention.
Stackdoor is a lightweight system designed for maximum visibility without compromising security. The stack-and-pin technology allows up to 80% free visibility and airflow, with no unsightly head box as the stacking mechanism requires minimal space at the top and bottom of the curtain.
The grille system used in this project is a unique variation of the Stackdoor Curved product and demonstrates the ability of both the product and the installation team at Scotty Doors, to deliver complex, custom solutions for clients.
